Why Stonebred
Stonebred is a Zimbabwe goat business built on one idea: breed for the land, keep honest records, and put the origin on every pack.
Stone country
Zimbabwe is commonly said to take its name from the Shona words for houses of stone. The land under it is granite, dry and unforgiving.
Stonebred is named for animals bred to do well on that ground. Reds is the Kalahari Red, the breed at the centre of the herd.
- Stone, the country the animals are bred for.
- Bred, chosen on purpose, generation by generation.
- Reds, the Kalahari Red and its deep red coat.
Stone country is hard on animals. The ones that thrive on it are the ones worth breeding.
Three commitments
Breed for the land
Choose animals that do well on dry, stony ground, and breed from the ones that do.
Keep honest records
Every animal tagged and recorded, so sire and dam are never a guess.
Put the origin on every pack
Goat meat that says where it was bred, in plain words.
One mark for the whole farm
A Kalahari Red buck inside a ring that reads Stonebred Reds, Zimbabwe.
It is the mark that will go on ear tags, certificates, pack labels and crates, so the origin travels with the animal and with the meat.
